I am a hot sleeper and we really needed a fan to help cool down our home, and the summer months have been especially hot lately. I rent out a basement level apartment and this fan was amazing when it first arrived. But almost one year of use, there are some pretty big issues I have with it and I’ll go into more detail later.

First I will start with the pros. This little thing was a hurricane in its first 6 months and it performed great. It shot air from across the entire basement level and it really did feel like the air was being circulated more-so then just jetted to one side of the room. The entire room had movement, and you could feel the breeze even when you were not sitting in front of the fan. I did a lot of research and this was primarily why I bought Vornado for the first time. No osculation, but it feels like it is a traditional oscillating fan with the air in the entire area moving around. The price made me debate the purchase, and well, now that I did buy it, I can’t say I’d recommend this purchase given its short lifespan.

    Here are the cons:
    - In one year, this fan just took a dump. The power level is just not the same. Level 3 is the fastest speed and it used to roar, but now the Level 3 speed is about what the Level 1 speed was in the beginning. This is disappointing as a fan costing nearly $100 and a company that prides itself on not being cheap, I was hoping to get more long term use out of it.

    - The base has a spinning mechanism to tighten the stand so you can adjust the fan to sit at a higher level but after one year, this doesn’t really work. It loosens up, and falls back to the floor after about an hour.

    - The fan is terrible to clean, I think the most efficient way is taking it outside and blasting it with a leaf blower to push the dust out of the crevices will be the best option because there is no clear cut or easy way to disassemble and clean out and the slots are too small/tight to allow a high suction vaccum to even suck the dust out. The back plate collects a ton of dust in the behind the fan and so if you don’t have an industrial leaf blower, then maybe an air can could push this out, but it just becomes a bit of a mess and you will sit there for a while trying to get it all out. After two or three times of this it gets annoying, as other fans you can just disassemble wipe down and reassemble again.

    - The turn knob that adjusts the settings on the front pops off pretty easily. So easily, my 3 year old son was able to remove it and it’s gone now. So a pair of needle-nose pliers are needed to turn off and on, and to change the speed if desired.

So what started as a high performance fan (in my eye) turned into a chore to maintain, turn on, adjust height (for it to just slide back down), and the performance just tanked to the point where I’m now looking again for another fan. With traditional everyday use to avoid the heat, this one doesn’t seem to last and it becomes more of a pain to deal with.
